Loss of credentials of your HU account

Information on how to generate new credentials after loss/lock

After losing your HU account credentials there are multiple pathways to recover access. Employees have two options. Students manage their own recovery via PIN. The options outlined here are to be considered conclusive.

Attention: Please be advised that the CMS does not store any credentials in plaintext. We can neither read your passwords, nor could or would we provide credentials via phone or email. Attempts to "compare" passwords are futile.

Employees

  • Inhouse mail
Please contact the user helpdesk. A letter containing a new initial password will be sent to your name at a verified address. Deviated addresses or trustee recipients are not possible.
  • VideoIdent session
When reaching out to the user helpdesk (see above), you may also request a VideoIdent session instead of a letter. If mentioned, we will schedule a Big Blue Button session with you. Once your identity has been verified via camera & government-issued photo ID, you will receive your new initial password in the encrypted chat.
  • Pickup in person is not possible.
  • Please also be advised that initial passwords are not capable of logging into HU services, and only serve to set a new password.

Students

  • Self-service
With your PIN and your complete personal data, you may use this form to set a new password anytime. Please be sure to include all your given and last names, analogous to your enrollment data.
  • The above-mentioned pathways for employees are not available for students.

External user of the HU library

  • Visitor of the public library of the university may contact the library staff directly to sort out any issues with credentials.
