5th DINI-nestor Workshop Tools for Research Data
The joint working group research data of the German Initiative for Network Information (DINI; Deutsche Initiative für Netzwerkinformation e.V.) and nestor - German competence network for digital preservation cordially invites to the workshop "Tools for Research Data: Demand and Integration in Research and Data Management" at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel on June 17th, 2016.
The following questions will be addressed:
- Which experiences exist with tools for research data management? What has proved successful and what not?
- Which demands have data managers and researchers regarding tools for research data management? What should be included in every portfolio/"toolbox" of an infrastructure facility?
- How can generic tools be devleloped that are not only useful in (discipline-)specific use cases, but also applicable in other individual contexts? Are there best practices or general criteria?
- Where is the limit for generic offerings and when should discipline-specific solutions be chosen? How can sustainable usability of data and its associated tools be garanteed?
- Is it possible or even sensible to compete with commercial providers of generic tools, which are also used by researchers for collaborative work with research data? What is the long-term perspective for the use of commercial tools?
